Hi, my name is Natalie Meade, it’s lovely to meet you. Jump to Services Did you know, only 2% of Australian women experience a completely natural physiological birth? This sad (almost unbelievable) statistic comes directly from the Maternity Consumer Network and can be derived from data from the Mother and Babies reports. The truth is, birth is TOUGH and on top of that, your environment/lack of experienced support, can make it way, way, tougher. This is why GREAT, private, birth education and/or a Birth Doula, are extremely important for your birth - for all births! The next time you hear a sad, negative or even disturbing/scary, birth story, gently ask them about what they might wish or want to do next time around possibly hiring extra birth support or doing a deeper, more comprehensive private, birth course? Try to find out what worked, what didn’t work. All birth stories contain great learnings. Commonly, for my own first birth, the woman may go into birth assuming that midwives/OBs can calm us and tell us how to birth. But the truth is, there is little a medical carer can do once a women enters her labour with a panic response. (the work and preparation is needed BEFORE labour day) Primarily, too many women, supporters and partners, go into birth under-prepared physically, mentally and emotionally (and if you think a hospital education course you’ve done or enrolled in is enough - I am sorry, it barely scrapes the surface). I love my work so much, I am very blessed. Women and families reach out to me when they are feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed and/or confused about birth. Within minutes, together, the woman/supporter enjoys validation, empathic listening, reassurance and helpful, calming information.
